Drive to Jerome

Jerome

On Saturday April 8th, 2023 the Dynamic Mini Collective of Arizona met at the Horseshoe Cafe in Wickenburg for breakfast, prior to heading to Jerome, Arizona, with a short stop at the Granite Mountain Hotshots Memorial State Park.

The Granite Mountain Hotshots were a group of elite firefighters based in Prescott, Arizona. They were trained to fight wildfires in remote and rugged terrain, and were known for their bravery and expertise in battling wildfires. On June 30, 2013, 19 of the Granite Mountain Hotshots tragically lost their lives while fighting the Yarnell Hill Fire, a fast-moving wildfire that swept through Yarnell, Arizona. The incident became the deadliest wildfire in Arizona's history and the deadliest incident for firefighters in the United States since the September 11 attacks. The Granite Mountain Hotshots were widely respected and mourned by the firefighting community, and their sacrifice has been commemorated in various ways, including the creation of the Granite Mountain Hotshots Memorial State Park in Yarnell, Arizona.

Unfortunately, there was no parking available, so we continued on to Jerome. Jerome is a small town located in Yavapai County, nestled in the Black Hills of central Arizona. Once a booming copper mining town, it now has a population of just over 400 residents. Despite its small size, Jerome has become a popular tourist destination, known for its stunning views, historic architecture, and vibrant art scene. Visitors can explore the town's many galleries, boutiques, and restaurants, or take in the breathtaking scenery. With its rich history and unique charm, Jerome is truly a hidden gem in the Arizona landscape.

Our group enjoyed a late lunch at Bobby D's BBQ, then headed home.
